This is a truly unique set of six counters made around 1785. They are all octagonal with a crest which sadly I cannot trace. It seems to be a lion with a human face standing on waves! A very strange crest indeed. Reverses marked 1000, 500 250, 100 , 50 and no number for the smallest one. How I wish I could discover who it was made for! Whoever it was must have had deep pockets. I know of no other set of counters all in octagonal shape. And the largest counter is of exceptional size. The 500 is no minnow either. Beautiful bright m-o-p. .
