Thick, bright mother-of-pearl with the crest ( a griffins's head between two wings) and motto Deo Juvante ( God willing) made in Canton to special order circa 1840 for the SHORT family. Monogram 'S'  in a roundel to the reverse. Superb deep-carved decoration and very finely fretted border makes these counters some of the very finest and most desirable counters produced to special order only.
