Exceptional quality deep-carved counter for GROOM family (2)

Another rare example form this exceptional quality set.  This counter is of exceptional thickness and is made of superb quality mother-of-pearl which was selected for its ability to show the finest detail. This counter shows six people to the front and nine to the reverse. Plus a horse! A very rare indication of the quality of this special commission form Canton. It bears the crest of the GROOM family: an arnoured arm embowed grasping a gauntlet and - another very rare feature - the crest itself is relief-carved. It is over 3mm thick - necessary to allow all the detail in the scenes. I am offering five counters from this set in all - each one a masterpiece in miniature.
