Made around 1800 from bone by French prisoner-of-war during the Napoleonic war on the prison ships moored along the Thames and south coast of the UK, this beautiful games box has a picture of a  French soldier and his sweetheart on the lid. It contains bone dominoes. These items were made for sale on the dockside by French prisoners, some of whom were captive for up to 15 years while the war raged. The prisoners were allowed use the pork bones from the kitchens on the boats to make these items for sale and the trusties were allowed to leave the boat to sell them.
